 Suppose we have to find square of a number 72.
Step no. 2
 Write down two digits seperately as:
      
                  7                2
In middle of them multiply two  digits with each other and with 2  as:
         
                       7x2x2
We get as
   

                7       7x2x2       2
     Take the square of end digits as:
   

            49         7x2x2     4
          
        49           28          04
              

               =    5184
